Gianni Virgadaula, born in Milan on May 24, 1957, is a multifaceted figure in the Italian cinema and literature. Trained at the Free University of Cinema, he has collaborated with renowned Italian directors like Federico Fellini, Nanni Loy, and Pupi Avati, earning a reputation as the ‘director of saints’ for his religious-themed films. His career began with the documentary “Italian Dream” in 1984 and his debut as Fellini’s assistant in “Ginger and Fred” at Cinecittà in 1985. Virgadaula’s diverse roles include national councilor of the Italian Catholic Press Union, membership in the Italian Association for Film History Research, founding the Pina Menichelli Cinema Museum, directing the ‘Paolo VI’ School of Cinematography, and has been an artistic director for film events. He has authored over 20 publications. His Notable cinematic works are “Agata di Cristo” (2001), “Lucia di Siracusa” (2004), “Lèmuri il bacio di Lilith” (2008), “La Domenica del Signore” (2013), “L’ultimo principe puparo” (2015), “Gelone, la spada e la Gloria” (2018), and “Avati racconta Dante” (2022).
